Dirty Martini: Product Review & Giveaway
7
Oh, dirty martini. How your savory siren song does beckon.
If you share the same affinity for this updated and, dare I say, slightly more sophisticated version of the classic martini, then you will be thrilled about today’s product review. We are reviewing a new product called 1888 Dirtiest Martini Mix. This is a new entry into mixers and is sure to take the martini world by storm.
The secret is apparent. It is real and simple. Unlike other olive juices, 1888 Olive Press uses lots of whole Spanish olives, from which they extract the juice with a one-ton press. That mostly sums up the list of ingredients. What you get is a smooth, less salty, flavorful mixer that actually tastes like… well, olives. What you don’t get is what the creator, Kenneth Hamburger, describes as a drink that “tastes like the ocean”.
I tried this mixer in a couple of recipes over the weekend. The results were fantastic. This just took my cocktail game up a notch. I instantly started thinking of other uses for it. I am even toying with a salad dressing idea. It is that good.
Mind you, if you do not like olives, this may not be for you. However, if you want to be able to offer a superior drink to your guests, I highly recommend it.
Very soon this product will be available in most markets nationwide. If you cannot find it near you, contact the producers through their website. Two lucky readers will receive a bottle in the mail. All you have to do is comment using the comment link at the end of this post. I will use an outside source to randomly choose two readers to receive a bottle of 1888 Premium Olive Press Dirtiest Martini Mixer. The drawing closes at midnight CST on Monday, April 12. The winners will be notified on next Tuesday.
Just ahead you will find the two cocktail recipes I use most often. One is for a classic Dirty Martini. The other is what we in Texas call the Mexican Martini. Both are delicious and true crowd pleasers.
savour… shaken, not stirred.
Two Martinis
Before you start:
I will leave the choice of vodka or gin to you. This is completely personal preference.
You should use the best quality alcohol you can afford. That does not mean the most expensive. While I do think there is some truth to “you get what you pay for”, sometimes things just cost more. Value is the key here.
The Dirty Martini is most often served with a bleu cheese stuffed olive. If you can find them, try them.
Many people prefer more olive juice in the Mexican Martini. This is a starting place. Adjust as you deem appropriate.
Classic Dirty Martini
The ingredients:
2 oz vodka or gin
1 oz olive juice
½ oz dry vermouth
1 large olive (I prefer stuffed)
The method:
- Pour gin or vodka, olive juice, and vermouth in a shaker with about 1cup of ice.
- Shake vigorously for about 10 seconds.
- Strain over chilled martini glass.
- Skewer two olives on a toothpick and place in drink.
Mexican Martini
The ingredients:
2 oz tequila
1 ½ triple sec or orange liqueur
2 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz orange juice
½ oz olive juice
1 jalapeno stuffed olive
Splash club soda or sprite
The method:
- Juice the lime (rolling it on the counter under the heel of your palm will yield more juice).
- Pour tequila, triple sec or orange liqueur, and juices into a shaker with about 1 cup of ice.
- Strain over chilled martini glass.
- Splash club soda or Sprite on top (use Sprite for a sweeter drink if you prefer).
- Skewer olive on toothpick and place in drink.
Enjoy responsibly.

I too love, love, love Dirty Vodka Martinis. My favorite vodka is Luksusowa. This is an excellent Polish vodka. It's probably so good because vodka originated in Poland.

Martinis are not the end of the line for this baby. Try marinating some chicken or making a puttanesca sauce... The opportunities are endless!

Never made a martini, but I am now.

I must try Luksusowa. I usually make my martinis with gin, but I never shy away from vodka either.

Yes...perfect for a sauce!
Sadly, my test bottle is nearly gone. I will have to go get some more this week.

Thank you very much for your very thoughtful and considered comment. I approach the journey in very much the same way as you've described yours.
