Cookie Week Day3: Caramel Date Pinwheel

Our third entry for Cookie Week is this delightful little pinwheel cookie.  We typically try to include at least
one filled cookie with our holiday treats and this one answers the call perfectly.  Not only does the swirl
give you plenty of cookie to filling, but the pattern is interesting and adds an element of fun to your cookie
package.

The flavors here are great together.  The dates add to the caramel flavor of the cookie and the nuts add
just a little more plus just the right amount of texture.  This cookie is (pardon the word play) well-rounded
and may soon become your holiday favorite.

Cookie Week Day2: Tuxedo Cookie

Cookie week continues with a show stopper.  This tuxedo cookie is a stepped up sandwich cookie with lots of class.  The cookie itself is not overly sweet and very chocolately.  The mascarpone cream inside is absolute heaven.

I must advise that this cookie is not suitable for shipping.  The cookies alone could go, but the cream would not make the trip very well.  They would, however, be wonderful for local delivery.  They remind me of being a kid... in a very grown up way.

Cookie Week Begins: 7 Spice Cornmeal Cookies

Welcome to Cookie Week.  This is our second year of what we expect to be an ongoing tradition around here.  This is the week that many will begin planning (if not baking) for the treat boxes they will be shipping for the holidays.  Last year we brought you 5 of our favorite cookies to ship and this year we are adding 5 more.  In addition, we will be offering up some tips throughout the week for a successful shipment.

7spice1

Our lineup begins this week with our original 7 Spice Cornmeal Cookie.  This cookie is everything... and not in the Project Runway way like 'that fabric is everything', but really, it's everything.  It is sweet yet spicy, crispy yet chewy, smooth yet textural.

You won't find many sweet recipes around that include 7 spice.  This middle eastern spice combination is typically found in savory dishes.  It is peppery and pungent.  When paired with the sweetness of the cookie dough it adds just the right amount of bite.  The texture of the corn meal adds the perfect backdrop to the smooth and sweet currants.  This is the perfect cookie for the person who is unaffected by the standard chocolate chip.

We are taking a little break this week to celebrate the holiday with our family.  We hope you are enjoying yours, as well.  We didn't want to leave you with no treat to get you through, so we are offering up this holiday special... the chocolate dipped citrus peel.

As an added bonus we are introducing, for the very first time, a video.  We have some growing to do, but we believe this is a step in the right direction.  We hope you like it.  Please feel free to leave your comments here or at YouTube.

Today we have a quick post to get you ready for Thanksgiving.  Beyond the usual Turkey Day fare, some will be looking for the snack food to pop while they watch a little football.  We have the perfect solution.  We call them firecrackers (mostly because we make them fairly hot), but you can call them whatever you wish.

Art You Can Do: Grackle Line

Fall is all around (even here in Dallas).  As the weather cools and sunset occurs earlier, the grackles seem to gather together even more than the rest of the year.  I must admit that (unlike many I know) I am fascinated by them.  I have been honked at many times for not moving at a green light because I am mesmerized by the hundreds of grackles delicately perched on the wires at the intersection.

Grackle-line

The grackles are the inspiration for our Art You Can Do project today.  This technique is a form of reverse painting and couldn’t be easier.  The results are modern and fun.   We have included the grackle templates that we used so you can make one just like ours or draw your own.

The Kid Table: Free Printables

Most big family gatherings that involve dinner include the kid table.  You probably remember sitting at one and anxiously awaiting the day you would graduate to the grown up table.  This table, removed from adults and adult conversation, was seldom very exciting.

Strangely, as soon as I became a real grown up I realized that the kid table was much more appealing.  The company there is far more interesting.  The only thing that was missing was something to keep us occupied.  We have included a few things here to help make your kid table more fun.  The napkin ring could easily be used for an adult table with a more casual feel, too.
