Color Story: Gettin' Figgy With It

It's been a while since we ran a color story post.  I thought that Friday's Treat of the Week, Fig and Honey Tapioca, was a perfect excuse to do so.  The colors from this photo shoot were amazing.  They are the perfect transition colors from summer to autumn.  Many of the colors could be used for either season.

I opted to leave out the obvious reds and violets, but they are also a fine compliment to the overall story here.  How can you see this palette being used?  What is your favorite of the 5 colors?  What other color do you see from the picture that you love?  We welcome your feedback.

Spring has officially bloomed and despite some nasty weather around the US, the air is filled with twittering birds and floral fragrance.  It won’t be long before spring gives way to summer.  We thought this might be the right time to celebrate a bit of what spring has to offer in terms of color.

Spring-table-CS

We have chosen 5 spring themed pictures from around the web and pulled some color combinations directly from the images.  This first table setting photograph is from www.stylemepretty.com.  What a nice place to sit for a meal.  The colors are so sunny.  How might you use them?

Beyond the subtle muted palette of this art from www.freya-art.com, the message is sweet and completely spring.  Spring colors do not necessarily mean pastels.  This is a wonderful example.

Here is this week's Color Story.  We chose the Pomegranate Feta Salad as the inspiration photo.  I must admit that this photo was chosen mostly because it had purple in it.  This is such a wonderful color for fall and the rest of the palette plays right along.

Keeping with the autumn theme, we chose a somewhat muted palette.  However, don't restrict the use of this palette to a fall tablescape.  It could be used in so many other ways.  What do you think?  How would you use it?  Send along your ideas and comments.  Until next week...

This week we have drawn the inspiration for our color story from the cheese post we presented on Monday.  Not only were we able to pull from the variety of colors within the cheeses, but we used colors from the fruits, as well.  The green of the grapes is divine and the rich "purpley"-red hue of the apple round out the palette.  A combination of these colors would be great for a kitchen or even a family dining room.  Send us your thoughts and ideas for usage.  Until next week...

Our color story this week comes from the Treat of the Week.  If you haven't checked out the recipe, please do.  The instructions are easy and the result is amazing.

This color story screams fall.  I added a bit of the khaki color from the sunflower seeds to balance it out and give a strong neutral presence which could be used as a base color.  The subtle differences in orange could certainly change the mood of a space depending on their use.  What do you see?  How would you use this palette?  Please leave your comments at the end of the post.  If you have pictures which illustrate the use of a similar palette I would love to see them.

Until next week...

Pearcolorstory We are introducing a new feature at Today's Nest.  Here you will see a photo from the Treat of the Week post from earlier today.  Pulling colors directly from the photo we have selected a color palette that you could use for a variety of purposes.

This particular palette conveys a strong autumn feeling.  Colors could be pulled and used in combination for all sorts of things from an outfit to stationery.  I am imagining a family room or den utilizing some or all of these colors in one way or another.

Please feel free to leave your comments and let us know if you like this new feature or not.  Also, I would be interested to read how you might use this palette.

Until next time...
